April 30th-May 4th

WRITING
We will get angry with our writing this week with making our own Angry Bird character! This will be a two week project where each student will design and describe their bird using wild descriptions. Through this project we will review poetry, letter writing, how-to steps and transition words.

READING
Our reading will focus on main idea. Using anything from a toothbrush, toothpaste and dental floss to a napkin, picnic table and can of soup, we will look at many details to determine what the BIG idea is of what we are reading, talking about or showing out of our main idea bag.

Our grammar will be reviewing the four types of sentences (declarative, interrogative, imperative and exclamatory).

SPELLING
We will focus on soft c and g words (c as /s/ and g and /j/). Your child will bring home one list on Monday. We will assess on Friday.

MATH
Last week, we reviewed our quick facts of 1-18. This week will focus on two digit addition/subtraction with and without regrouping, two step problems and key words for addition and subtraction problems. We will assess our facts on Friday, before moving on to modeling multiplication and division.

SOCIAL STUDIES
We have finished our science curriculum and will be focusing on social studies for the rest of the year. This week will focus on needs and wants connected to goods and services. We will discuss the connection of money (saving and spending), jobs and income. The students will make a house of needs and wants, representations of people who provide a good or a service and a concrete flow chart of how certain things are made (from start to finish).
