Welcome Back to School!
I'm so excited to meet everyone and to start another great year in second grade here at Caraway Elementary.
This will be an exciting first week! We will be getting to know each other, learning about second grade expectations and learning to work as a team. Our first day will be full of getting to know each other games and learning about our classmates, teacher and classroom. Our second day will be a celebration of everything 2! We will honor the second day in second grade with all things that come in pairs, are doubled and 2s of all kinds. On our third day we will continue with classroom and school expectations, as well as discussions of how to be bucket filler (someone who goes out of their way to help others and say things that are nice to others). The final day of our fist week we will continue to learn about each other by sharing our Me Bag Homework with the class. These bags are full of items that we feel show our personalities. Then in the afternoon we will celebrate our first week of school with a Second Grade Olympics contest. Our class will work as a team to compete against other classes, and will put to use all the teamwork skills we learned earlier in the week.
This first week will be an exciting week for your child to learn about their classmates, classroom and teacher as well as have many fun and exciting activities.
Here is some helpful first week information you might like to know!
Morning
I'm so excited to meet every one of you and so happy to have you in my classroom. School starts each day at 7:45. The bell rings to come down to the classroom at 7:35every morning. If you arrive before the bell then you can go to the cafeteria to wait and come down with your class, and with me. I'll be in the cafeteria every morning for the first two weeks, and if you get to the classroom before me the door will still be locked. Don't worry; I'll be down with the class from the cafeteria as fast as we can.
Breakfast
Breakfast is offered at the school and starts at 7:15. Breakfast is $1.35 paid and $0.03 for reduced lunch. The cafeteria stops serving lunch at 7:35.
Snack
We will have snack every day at 9:00. Students are responsible for bring their own healthy snacks. Snacks cannot be shared due to allergy concerns. Water bottles are welcome in the classroom, but must have a pull top or straw so that they remain closed in case of spills. Please have your child put their name on their bottles so that bottles are not accidentally shared.
Lunch
We will have lunch every day at 11:28. You child can bring a lunch or eat from the cafeteria. The cost of lunch is $2.10 paid and $0.40 for reduced lunch. Adult lunches cost $3.00 if you plan to join your child for lunch. Adult lunches cannot be put onto student accounts, and need to be ordered in the morning since our lunch is delivered to the school.
Specials
Please encourage your child to wear tennis shoes or bring them with them since they cannot participate in PE if they are not wearing safe footwear.
Recess
Recess is at the end of the day at 2:00 when it is very hot. If the heat index is over 100 degrees we will have indoor recess (per district policy). Please encourage your child to bring a water bottle every day in case we are able to go outside.
Dismissal
School ends each day at 2:45. Bus riders only are allowed to leave at 2:40 so that they can load the buses and leave before the car rider line begins.
We will walk down to the office in a line at the end of the day and it can get very congested in the hallways. It may be easiest for you to tell your child to meet you at the flagpole or playground at the end of the day. If you would like to meet them at the door at the end of the day, then be sure to sign-in at the office (per district policy).
Please email me with any questions or concerns you have about the first week of school.
I hope that everyone has a great first week!
