WRITING
We will finish up our Angry Bird project this week and present to the class our favorite piece of writing. Each student created their own bird and wrote a how-to on how they crafted their masterpiece. This week, we will focus on descriptive details on how each student's bird is the best and what sets each bird apart from the other. We will write a letter to the community, warning them of our bird's behavior, an acrostic poem with our bird name and a descriptive paragraph focusing on those big and small details and play a 'Guess Who' game with those details.

READING
Our focus will continue to be on main idea, but we are expanding our learning this week. We will now add details from the text and adjectives that support our guess of what the main idea is. This gives the students a chance to really dig into the text and prove why their guess is correct OR give them the opportunity to correct their guess with information they found.
Our grammar will focus on apostrophe use with possessives.
SPELLING
We will focus on words that end in a consonant + -le (ble, tle, gle, dle, fle, cle, kle, ple, zle). Your child will bring home one list on Monday. We will assess on Friday.

MATH
We are moving into multiplication this week. The goal of second grade multiplication is for the kids to understand and model how multiplication works, not to memorize facts. We will work with arrays, mushroom facts and cookies to show how multiplication is only repeated addition. Next week, we will introduce division.

SOCIAL STUDIES

We are learning a lot about the steps items go through to make it on the shelf to sell. Who knew milk didn't come straight from the cow, into the bottle to sell??? To show off our learning, our class will form a human assembly line and make a very sweet treat! We will continue to learn about how things are made (crayons, baseball bats, pencils, etc) and move into how technology has progressed in how things are made. We will compare how things were done 'in the old days' to now.
