October 30th-November 3

WRITING

In writing this week, we are continuing our Halloween fun. We will write several different styles of writing--all centered around the Halloween holiday. We'll write directions for making "Witches Brew", write Safety Tips for Halloween, and then write about our Halloween night. It'll be a week of creative and spooky writing!

READING
In between rounds of Daily 5, students will have the opportunity to present their trick-or-treat book reports and pumpkins. We will also complete the project's self-assessment. Please remember to send in all pumpkins on Friday.

MATH
This week, we are continuing our study of money. We will be doing many activities and games to reinforce our knowledge of coins. Our unit will conclude on Friday with an assessment of counting collections of coins.

SCIENCE & SOCIAL STUDIES
The first two days of the week will be spent reviewing and assessing on energy and motion. Beginning Wednesday, we will be learning about the election process by having our own election in class. By voting on and electing our favorite candy, students will learn about our government, campaigning, and voting.

REMINDERS
Pumpkin Book Characters are due on Monday, October 29th.

The Harvest Festival is next Saturday, November 3rd. The PTA could really use volunteers! Please consider helping them out with 30 minutes of your time! And please plan to attend. . . I'd love to see you there!

Report cards be sent home on November 6th. More information coming soon!

COMING SOON
Second Grade will be going to Inner Space Caverns on Friday, November 9th. Permission slips will be sent home in Tuesday folders. Please sign the front, have your child sign the back, and return to school by November 6th.

Due to space constraints, parents cannot ride on the buses, but you are welcome to meet us there and enjoy the day with us! Child admission is covered by our generous PTA, but parent admission will need to be paid at the door. We'd love to spend the day with you!
