I hope you have a great Spring Break!
WRITING
We are done with our research, but not done with our project...Our displays will be kept in the room for one more week to compare and contrast the African life style to how the USA lives today. We will formulate opinions and recall the facts we learned about Africa and compare that to what we know about our culture today. The week will end with a class book to add to our class library.
READING
Our research on Africa is over and our class did a great job! This week, we will focus on the skill of making an inference (using background knowledge and text clues to understand an author’s message). We will practice this through reading, silent video clips, pictures and puzzle pieces.
SPELLING
We will work on making words plural (-s or -es endings). Your child will bring home TWO lists. One showing the singular form and the other showing the plural. We will assess on Friday.
MATH
Last week, we learned all about 2D (plane) shapes and how to spot them in the classroom. This week, we will learn all about 3D (solid) figures and spot them around the school and our neighborhood. It is always an enjoyable experience to see the class look around them with a different outlook. They will figure out what shapes are posing as objects (rectangular prism=desk top, soup can=cylinder, TV=cube or rectangular prism, etc). We will review on Thursday and assess our skills on Friday.
SCIENCE
Our unit on plants will continue and our knowledge will sprout as we see how different seeds grow into plants. We will be hands on with magnifying glasses to record the different attributes of all kinds of seeds and to hypothesize what type of plant each seed will grow up to be.
*If you have any packets of seeds you would like to donate, please have your child bring them to class by Wednesday, March, 21
