WRITING & READING
We hope you were able to see and hear some strong persuasive statements that the class learned the past two weeks.
For the next two weeks, we are exploring the culture of Native Americans in our writing and reading. Each class has picked a culture to study and will walk through the steps of researching (more independently) to create a final written piece and product.
Our class will break into small groups and study a specific topic about African Culture. At the end of this unit, each classroom will be set up to resemble a gallery of writing and artifacts. We will have the opportunity to walk through each gallery and fill out an information sheet on each culture.
If you have any things about African Culture that you can share (books, clothes, jewelry), then we would love to get to see them in a show and tell or use them in our gallery walk.
SPELLING
We will continue the study of the long 'u' sound (oo, ew). Spelling words will be sent home on Tuesday and we will test on Friday. Everyone has been doing very well with the spelling rules!
MATH
There's a 100% chance we will be working on probability this week! In our investigation of chance, the students will be able to distinguish between 'very likely', 'likely' or 'not likely' events. This will range from dice rolls to candy colors. It is very likely that we will have a small assessment at the end of this week!
SOCIAL STUDIES
Last week, our focus was on natural hazards and the effects on the environment. This week, we will talk about the effects humans have on the environment (positive and negative consequences). With looking at 'old' pictures of how Austin used to be, the students will see a distinct contrast of how the hill country used to look, before we started building the city.
