Writing:
This week we will continue our cultural research on South Africa. Everyone has done a fabulous job so far and we are learning interesting things! I know where I want to go on vacation now! We have set goals such as using 4 resources, getting 8 notefacts per resource, and adding 10 words to our class glossary. To complete the research unit we will create a product and present it to the class. We will also do a "self-evaluation" on our work and presentation.
Reading:
We will continue reading as we research South Africa this week. We will also work on reading to build fluency and comprehension in our guided reading groups. Please make sure that your child is reading and recording their required 400 minutes this month.
Spelling:
We will work on opened and closed syllables in words. Your child's list of words will come home on Monday in their folder and we will check for understanding on Friday.
Math:
This week we are starting our unit on geometric shapes. We will discuss parts of shapes such as vertices and faces. We also work on identifying polygons and other types of flat shapes. At the end of the week we will have fun with tangrams!
Science:
Our next unit is all about plants. We will learn about plant parts, uses, and the needs of plants. Each day we will tap into prior knowledge about plants with our "wonder" chart. We will discover new things about plants by making connections to the life cycle of a plant.
