This week we will begin our Second Grade Time Capsules. There are various writing activities such as creating goals and dreams for the future. We will continue to review writing conventions while reviewing our year in second grade.
Reading:
Our drama and theater unit will continue. We will focus on fluency and expression while reading plays in front of the class. We will look out for morals and values that are taught in some plays also. This is always a fun time to shine!
Math:
Rounding, expanded form, and line graphing will be our focus during math stations this week. We will also revisit number order, subtraction, and place value. Math homework will come home on Tuesday and should be returned on Wednesday as usual.
Social Studies:
Our past and present projects will start this week. You child will bring home an interview sheet on Monday in order to interview a person at least 40 years old. The questions will be based around how recreation, communication, transportation, and technology have changed in their life. These interviews are due on Tuesday. They can call someone to interview them if they cannot interview them in person.
End of year Party:
Our end of year party is coming up, and it is something totally different from parties your kids have done in school before. We have a special second grade breakfast! You will not feed your child at home this morning so that they can eat breakfast at school. They will go to every second grade classroom for a special themed breakfast treat in each room. There is also a game in every room. Our room is smoothies and Hawaiian themed limbo. We need volunteers to man our rooms since the parents will run the room while the teachers rotate to the classes with the students. We need at least four volunteers for the party from 8:00-11:15, so that people can switch out and go see their kids having fun in other rooms. We also need a few supplies. We will need a limbo stick- does anyone have a long bamboo pole? We also need some volunteers to bring in some Route 44 Slushies from Sonic that we will split up into small cups. I will provide an ice chest, small cups, and limbo music. I promise you will love this party. It is a lot of fun for the kids and the adults every year! If you can volunteer or bring supplies then please email me!
