WRITING & READING
We are all done with our Lego writing! Come by and see all the fun we had!
This week we will begin our research by taking notes on our animal, and researching in several different ways- on the computer, in encyclopedias and in our books. Then we will create a product using our research.
Our grammar for this week will focus on compound words.
SPELLING
We will work on r-controlled words (ar, are, air, or, ore, oar). Your child will bring home one list on Monday. We will assess on Friday.
MATH
This week will be benchmark testing. Our benchmark will cover all concepts learned this year. We will review at the beginning of the week with the class and take the benchmark over the next couple days.
SCIENCE
In science, we will continue our study on animals. This week's focus will be food chains, life cycles and Animal Adventure Day!!! We will have a fun food chain game for Monday (cross your fingers for no rain!) and a discussion about where their research animals would be on the chain. Life cycles will be learned through different examples of animals and insects and a Bill Nye the Science Guy song. Animal Adventure Day will be spread over Thursday and Friday. As a class, we will rotate through each second grade classroom to learn about and play games concerning the animal classifications/kingdoms. On Friday, we will have a reptile show presented by Austin Reptile Shows and the kids will get an exciting hands-on show featuring reptiles from around the world. A special thanks to Mike Foux who is donating three small groups shows to our second graders! It will be a great way to end our week!
